HIPS filament

HIPS is a lightweight material that is often used as a support material for ABS prints. HIPS can be dissolved in d-Limonene. HIPS is also printed with similar settings to ABS, which is why the two can be combined so well. In addition, HIPS can also be used as a filament to print objects. HIPS is slightly lighter than ABS and has better dimensional stability.

With these tips you can reduce the most common problems when printing with HIPS filament.

Print in a high ambient temperature.

To keep HIPS from shrinking quickly, try increasing the temperature around the 3D printed part. This can be achieved by printing in a closed build room. This will cause the heated print bed to increase the temperature. (A heated build chamber is, of course, even better.)

Improve the adhesion between layers.

3D printing with HIPS may require a little extra care to get a good bond between the layers. Which unfortunately can cause splits between the layers. Better adhesion between layers can be obtained by printing at a thinner layer height or at a warmer temperature.
