Composite Filament
8 products
Composite filaments are filaments to which something extra has been added. Easywood, metalfil and stonefil are based on PLA. Wood, metal or stone is then added to this. Carbonfil is based on PETG containing real carbon fibers. Polywood is actually not a composite filament. This is because there is no wood in it, but it does give a very realistic, wood-like appearance.
Polywood and composites
The intention of these filaments is that it does not look like it is made of plastic. In the case of Polywood, this was achieved without real wood being added. This makes polywood easier to print than real composites. The chance of blockage is smaller and Polywood does not rub through the nozzle. FormFutura's composites such as Easywood, metalfil, stonefil and carbonfil do contain real pieces of wood, metal, stone or carbon. These filaments do rub through the nozzle. We therefore recommend the use of a nozzle made of stainless steel or hardened metal. Because these wear less quickly than a brass nozzle. Despite the wear in the nozzle, these composite filaments are very interesting. You can experience very realistic 3D prints. For example, when you print with metalfil, you really get the impression that the object is metal. Your 3D print is then a lot heavier than when you print with normal PLA. Also, the object feels as if it is completely made of metal. This makes these 3D printer filaments very unique.
If you want to print something wood-like, you can choose between Easywood and Polywood. Here you can ask yourself what you prefer. Are you going for a print with real wood in it or do you want to print more easily? If the latter option is your preference, we recommend polywood. Because this gives a realistic wood-like result, without the worries of 3D printing with real composite filament.
Composite Filament
Composite filament combines the best of composite materials with the convenience of 3D printing. It consists of short, stiff fibers embedded in a rigid polymer matrix. This enables computer-aided fabrication of composite materials. Traditional filament consists of a single material, usually PLA or ABS. Composite Filament combines the strength of polymers with composites such as wood and metal to create filaments never seen before. Furthermore, Composite filament contains wood particles in a polymer matrix, allowing higher printing temperatures and speeds compared to traditional PLA. The composite filament also has low warping and shrinking properties, allowing for larger prints. This makes it an ideal material for printing stronger parts that require greater dimensional accuracy to scale.
Why use Composite filament?
If you are looking for a strong and flexible filament, composite material is what you are looking for. This composite filament is a mixture of two or more materials, where each material retains its properties, but the combination has different properties.
