3D scanner for your needs.
There is a lot of difference between the available 3D scanners. That is why we advise you to contact us if you are looking for a 3D scanner. The possibilities of a 3D scanner also depend on what you want to use it for. The materials and finish of the things you are going to scan can affect the 3D scan result.
How does a 3D scanner work?
A 3D scanner can map a three-dimensional object and convert it into a digital 3D model. This is made possible by measuring the distance between the scanner and the object (or person) being scanned. This distance is measured with a laser distance meter in the 3D scanner. A thin laser line is projected onto the physical object. The rangefinder measures height, width and depth. The time between switching on the laser and receiving the reflection is converted to the distance. To get a complete 3d model, the object must be scanned from all sides.
This data is then processed into a 3D point cloud, where each point is made by one of many measurements. These points are connected resulting in triangular shapes.
The 3D scanner often has a camera that takes pictures of the object while scanning. With the help of these photos a kind of layer is placed over the point cloud. This gives the 3D model the same color as the scanned object. The result of this can be saved in the popular 3D files. This file can then be edited in a CAD software or printed directly with a 3D printer.
Depending on the quality of the 3D scanner, little or a lot of post-processing will be required to be able to 3D print a good result. This is also influenced by how the 3D scan is made. Because the 3D scanner can possibly be influenced by external factors.
